Project Name: Participatory rural needs assessment under uplifting livelihoods and promoting safe migration project
Project Period: 18 June 2024 – 10 September 2024.
Client: International Organization for Migration
Objective of the Project: Prepare a comprehensive PRNA report with the necessary updates
The scope of the assignment encompassed a comprehensive Participatory Rural Needs Assessment (PRNA) conducted across four districts in Sri Lanka: Nuwara Eliya, Trincomalee, Mullaitivu, and Vavuniya. This assessment targeted specific groups, including labour migrant returnees, host communities, plantation sector residents, and women-headed households, with the objective of understanding their most essential livelihood needs, potential opportunities for community-level reintegration assistance, specific risks and challenges the target groups exposed. The project aimed to identify at least three potential small and medium enterprise (SME) opportunities in each district, focusing on areas where these SMEs could effectively support the livelihoods of returnees and other vulnerable groups. Collaboration with local stakeholders, including community leaders and government officials, was a key component to ensure that interventions were well-supported and relevant. The final deliverables included a detailed report outlining the PRNA findings, recommended SME interventions, and identification of potential partners and beneficiaries, which were presented to IOM and government officials.
