We recently conducted a comprehensive survey to assess the status of elderly care services in Sri Lanka, focusing Colombo and Ampara Districts. The study, undertaken with the support of JICA, aimed to update information on the latest developments and identify potential areas for future cooperation in addressing aging-related challenges.
The study examined key aspects of elderly care, including:
✅ Intermediate Care for the Elderly – Evaluating progress in establishing or converting intermediate care centers and identifying challenges in service delivery
✅ Community Care Facilities – Assessing the availability and effectiveness of daycare centers, elderly care houses and similar support services
✅ International Support & Capacity Development – Reviewing contributions from international organizations in facility renovations and human resource training to enhance elderly care services
✅ Living Conditions in Rural & Remote Areas – Investigating the accessibility of elderly care services in underserved regions and identifying gaps in support systems
This study provides critical insights into the current landscape of elderly care in Sri Lanka, paving the way for targeted interventions and collaborative efforts to improve services.
