Client: Trinco Petroleum Terminal (Pvt.) Ltd
Project Period: September 2023 to December 2024
Objective: The objective of the project is to analyze the overall project to assess the extent to which it minimizes negative environmental and societal impacts while achieving the project’s goals of improving storage and transportation infrastructure. The analysis will ensure that the project complies with CEA regulations and other relevant standards, ultimately supporting the sustainable development of the Tank Farm at China Bay.
Description of the project: The Upper Tank Farm Project in China Bay, Trincomalee, focused on refurbishing ten storage tanks, installing pipelines, and upgrading facilities to improve petroleum and oil storage and transportation infrastructure. With the increasing global demand for storage facilities, this development, along with enhancements to the Trincomalee port, presents a valuable opportunity for Sri Lanka to earn foreign exchange.
To ensure environmental sustainability and compliance, a consultant conducted an Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) to assess the project’s potential impacts. The IEE report evaluated the environmental and societal effects, proposed mitigation measures, and ensured adherence to local and international regulations. Aligned with CEA laws and standards, the report aims to secure necessary approvals and clearances from relevant government agencies, paving the way for a responsible and impactful development.
